Speaking at a press briefing on Tuesday, the Executive Secretary of the Katsina State History and Culture Bureau, Dr. Kabir Ali-Masanawa, said the 2025 edition will mark the first time the event is receiving full support from the state government under Governor Dikko Radda.
He disclosed that delegations from at least 24 countries will take part, with the Emir of Daura’s palace in Daura serving as the main venue. Activities will include music, dance, displays of traditional attire, culinary exhibitions, and other cultural showcases that reflect the richness of Hausa heritage.
World Hausa Day, first celebrated in 2015, was created to promote the Hausa language, history, and traditions. Hausa is currently ranked the 11th most spoken language in the world, with projections suggesting an even higher ranking by 2050. Organisers say the event also serves to unite the global Hausa community, with celebrations held simultaneously in different countries and shared online through photos and videos.
This year’s edition will welcome dignitaries from the UK, USA, Saudi Arabia, Ghana, and, for the first time, the Netherlands. The Emir of Daura, Alhaji Faruq Umar-Faruq, is expected to deliver a keynote address during the celebration.
