The Kaduna State Urban Planning and Development Authority (KASUPDA) has called on residents of Rigasa Community in Igabi Local Government Area to obtain building permits to promote public health, safety, and sustainable urban development.
Community Engagement on Building Permits:
KASUPDA’s Director-General, Mr. Abdurrahman Yahya, delivered this message during a stakeholders’ engagement session held on Saturday in Rigasa Community. The meeting was part of the agency’s broader initiative to raise awareness about the importance and accessibility of building permits in regularised urban areas.
Yahya emphasized that Rigasa has been officially designated as a government-approved regularised area, enabling residents to easily obtain building permits through the streamlined regularisation process. He also encouraged traditional leaders to actively educate their communities on the necessity of securing building permits for their residential properties.

Simplified Approval Process and Subsidised Penalties:
Speaking on the permit process, Mr. Nasiru Bello, Head of KASUPDA’s Regularisation Unit, highlighted that the agency has simplified the approval process, reducing the waiting period to just two to three weeks. This initiative aims to make compliance more accessible to residents.
Additionally, Bello revealed that the government has subsidised penalty charges for residential buildings in regularised areas. The new, more affordable rates now range from ₦50,000 to ₦150,000, payable within a three-month period. This subsidy is designed to ease the financial burden on homeowners and encourage widespread compliance.
Community Support and Collaboration:
The District Head of Rigasa, Mr. Mohammed Idris, commended KASUPDA and the Kaduna State Government for their efforts toward the development of the community. He pledged full support and promised to disseminate the agency’s message through traditional title holders, community associations, youth groups, and other local networks.
Idris also urged residents to obtain their building approvals and strictly adhere to urban development regulations, reinforcing his community’s commitment to supporting KASUPDA’s initiatives.
Interactive Stakeholder Session:
The event featured an interactive session where KASUPDA addressed key concerns from community members regarding the regularisation process, permit applications, and the newly adjusted penalty fees. This engagement provided a platform for residents to gain clarity on the procedures and benefits of obtaining building permits.
