His resignation came just hours after Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf received the report of the investigative committee tasked with reviewing the matter.
In a statement issued on Wednesday by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, Namadi said his decision to resign was made in the “overriding public interest” and due to the sensitivity of the issue.
“As a member of an administration that has stood firmly against drug abuse, I feel it is necessary to take this painful step,” Namadi said. “Though I maintain my innocence, I cannot ignore the weight of public perception and the need to protect the values we have built.”
The former commissioner also expressed gratitude to Governor Yusuf for the opportunity to serve the state and reaffirmed his loyalty to the principles of transparency and accountability.
Reacting to the resignation, Governor Yusuf accepted Namadi’s decision and wished him well in his future endeavors. The governor reiterated his government’s firm stance against drugs and social vices, urging all political appointees to act with caution on sensitive issues and to seek approval from higher authorities before making decisions that affect the public.
