The Kano State Government has concluded plans to reopen five key entrepreneurship institutes across the state, with 1,400 new beneficiaries expected to begin training in various vocational skills.

This was disclosed by the Kano State Statistician-General, Dr. Aliyu Isa, during a stakeholders’ workshop on job creation held over the weekend in Kaduna. Dr. Isa, who is also a member of the steering committee overseeing the 26 entrepreneurship institutes in the state, said the move is part of efforts to promote economic empowerment and reduce poverty through human capital development.
The five institutes set for reopening are the Poultry Institute in Tukui, Reformatory Institute in Kiru, Artisan Fisheries Institute in Magaga, Irrigation Institute in Gwarzo, and the Journalism Institute in Kano.
Each of the institutes will offer targeted training in specific areas such as poultry rearing, welding, sewing, computer maintenance, phone repairs, modern fishing techniques, irrigation practices, and journalism.
According to Dr. Isa, a total of 1,400 individuals will be admitted into the training programmes. This includes 600 women who will undergo poultry rearing training, while each of the remaining four institutes will admit 200 beneficiaries.
Preparations for the reopening have been finalized, including feeding arrangements, provision of training materials, and improvements to basic infrastructure across the selected institutes.
