The development was confirmed on Tuesday during plenary at the Senate, presided over by Senate President Godswill Akpabio. A correspondence from the president, assenting to the bill, was officially read on the floor of the chamber.

The decision has earned President Tinubu commendation from various quarters, including Senate Deputy President, Barau I Jibrin, who sponsored the bill. In a post on his verified X account, Barau thanked the president for what he described as a bold step toward expanding access to education and accelerating national development.

“This reflects the President’s relentless quest to improve access to higher education and to fast-track the development of our country by providing the necessary skills to our teeming youths,” he wrote.

He further stated that the upgrade aligns with global best practices and will enable Nigerian youths to be trained in modern fields such as artificial intelligence, robotics, and cybersecurity. He congratulated the management, staff, students, and communities of Kabo on the achievement and urged them to uphold high academic standards during the transition.

Also reacting to the development, Bashir Ahmad, former media aide to ex-President Muhammadu Buhari, praised both the president and the bill sponsor. “We, the good people of Kano, extend our heartfelt gratitude to His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for graciously signing into law the bill converting the Federal Polytechnic Kabo into the Federal University of Science and Technology, Kabo in Kano State. Kudos to the Deputy Senate President, Sen. Barau I. Jibrin, for sponsoring this landmark bill,” he posted on X.
