Kano State has recorded significant economic growth, with its Gross Domestic Product (GDP) rising from N10.7 trillion in 2019 to N16.8 trillion in 2023.

The development was revealed in the official sub-national GDP report released by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) in collaboration with the Kano State Bureau of Statistics. The report covers all major sectors, including agriculture, industry, and services, for the period between 2019 and 2023.

According to the report, the agriculture sector grew steadily from N3.2 trillion to N5.4 trillion, highlighting its continued importance in sustaining Kano’s economy. The industrial sector also expanded, albeit at a slower pace, moving from N1.7 trillion to N2.4 trillion. Meanwhile, the services sector experienced the fastest growth, climbing from N5.8 trillion in 2019 to N9.0 trillion in 2023, making it the largest contributor to the state’s GDP.

To analyze the findings and provide recommendations for future economic planning, the Kano State Bureau of Statistics has established a technical committee of experts. The committee includes representatives from Bayero University Kano, Ahmadu Bello University, the Federal Polytechnic Kazaure, Kano PDMO, KAN-INVEST, and key state ministries.

The Bureau emphasized that the committee will guide data-driven decision-making, supporting Governor Abba K. Yusuf’s administration in prioritizing effective governance based on reliable statistics.

Dr. Aliyu Isa Aliyu, the Statistician-General of the Kano State Bureau of Statistics, reaffirmed the state’s commitment to using accurate data for planning and policy formulation.
