The initiative, aimed at improving directing, producing, scriptwriting, and other essential skills, was announced during a dinner ceremony held at Tahir Guest Palace, where certificates were presented to the participants. The event followed the completion of a three-day filmmaking workshop organized by the Kano State Censorship Board.

Speaking at the event, the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, emphasized the government’s commitment to empowering the Kannywood industry. He also revealed plans to foster collaboration between Kannywood and the Indian community to enhance growth and professionalism within the sector.

The Executive Secretary of the Kano State Censorship Board, Alhaji Abba El-Mustapha, expressed appreciation to both the Commissioner and the state governor, Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf, for their support in making the training program a reality. He urged the beneficiaries to apply the knowledge they acquired and to serve as proud ambassadors of the Hausa film industry.

El-Mustapha further noted that the actresses were the first group of women in Northern Nigeria to receive official training specifically tailored to filmmaking disciplines such as directing, producing, and scriptwriting.

On behalf of the participants, Hajiya Hauwa A. Bello, President of Kannywood Women Actresses, thanked the Kano State Government for the opportunity. She described the initiative as a historic milestone for the Kannywood industry and presented special awards of appreciation to key government officials for their efforts in supporting the development of female filmmakers.
