Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has reaffirmed his commitment to clearing the state’s pension liabilities, making the timely payment of gratuities and death benefits a cornerstone of his administration.

The chairman of the Kano State Pension Fund Trustees, Habu Fagge, revealed that the governor inherited a pension backlog totaling N48.6 billion.

To address this, Governor Yusuf initiated the disbursement of N6 billion in gratuities and death benefits to 5,500 pensioners earlier this year.

“The welfare of pensioners and workers remains a top priority for my government. We are committed to fulfilling our campaign promises by ensuring prompt payments and avoiding any deductions from pensions or salaries,” the governor stated.

In the second phase of the settlement program, the governor recently authorized the release of an additional N5 billion to benefit 4,000 retirees and their families. He explained that the first phase successfully addressed N6 billion in backlogs, supporting 2,000 pensioners.

Governor Yusuf emphasized that a transparent and efficient system has been established to facilitate these payments. “We have put in place a committee to oversee the process and ensure effective service delivery,” he said.

The initiative reflects Governor Yusuf’s commitment to improving the welfare of retirees and ensuring financial stability for senior citizens in Kano State.
