The residents of Magashi area in the Municipal local government and its environs in Kano metropolis, have expressed their profound gratitude to the state government’s efforts to evacuate the long mountain of refuse that accumulated over time in the area.

According to a statement signed by Ismail Garba Gwammaja, Director of Public Enlightenment, Kano Ministry of Environment, the residents acknowledged the state government’s efforts for the development.

A member of the community, Malan Auwalu Ibrahim Magashi, made the commendations when the monitoring team of the “Keep Kano Clean Initiative,” headed by the commissioner of environment, Dr. Kabiru Ibrahim Getso, visited the site on a routine exercise.

Malam Auwalu Magashi, who spoke on behalf of the people in the community, expressed appreciation for the zeal and passion of the present administration coupled with the desire of the commissioner towards ensuring a clean and safe environment devoid of waste within Kano metropolis.

Magashi pointed out that for a long period of time the waste had been a great source of concern to the residents of the area and had since been bedevilling the smooth movement of people in the area, he added.

He said the challenges the waste posed to the community, especially the neighboring houses, include health hazards, a security threat, and the general discomfort that has now become a thing of the past.

Responding to the Commissioner, Dr. Kabiru Getso said that after receiving a report about the waste in Magashi, the Ministry immediately swung into action to safeguard the residents of the area by mobilizing the operation department to do the needful.

He therefore restated the Ministry’s readiness to evacuate any waste within Kano metropolis, as it has been a tradition and part of the ministry’s mandate to clear waste on a daily basis in all nooks and crannies.

Dr. Getso appealed to the general public as a matter of great concern to desist from the indiscriminate dumping of refuse, especially inside drainages, which contributed heavily to flooding, while the state government had already secured waste collection sites in all the areas for people to utilize.

He also commended the people in the areas for identifying with the yearning and aspirations of Ganduje’s administration and hoping the tempo would be sustained for maximum benefit.
