The Commissioner for Environment and Climate Change, Dr. Dahir Hashim, disclosed this on Monday while presenting appointment letters to the new recruits at the ministry’s headquarters.
According to him, the forest guards will play a vital role in preserving trees and protecting the environment from deforestation. He noted that their responsibilities include preventing unlawful tree felling and promoting the sustainability of the state’s forest reserves.
Dr. Hashim described the protection of trees as both an environmental obligation and a form of continuous charity (sadaqatul jariyah), which he said brings blessings to society.
The commissioner also reiterated the ministry’s ban on the unauthorized use of chainsaws, warning that anyone caught violating the order will face strict sanctions. He described indiscriminate tree cutting as sabotage and assured that the government is determined to stop such practices.
On capacity building, Dr. Hashim said the ministry will provide annual training and necessary tools for the guards to perform their duties effectively. He urged them to serve with dedication, discipline, and integrity, stressing that they now represent the ministry in their new roles.
The commissioner further expressed appreciation to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for approving the recruitment, saying the move has strengthened the ministry’s workforce and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to sustainable forest management.
