According to a statement issued by the Director of Public Enlightenment, Murtala Shehu Umar, the exercise will begin on Friday, 30th May 2025, targeting government offices, markets, motor parks, and corporate premises. The general household cleanup across Kano metropolis will then follow on Saturday, 31st May 2025, from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.

Commissioner for Environment and Climate Change, Dr. Dahiru Muhammad Hashim, speaking through the Governor’s Special Adviser on Environmental Sanitation, Engineer Abdullahi Shehu Bichi, said mobile courts and security personnel have been mobilized to monitor compliance and sanction defaulters.

He urged residents to remain indoors during the designated hours and take part in cleaning their surroundings. Parents were also advised to keep their children from playing football or loitering in the streets during the exercise, warning that violators without valid reasons would be penalized.

Only essential workers will be allowed to move around during the sanitation period, the statement added.

The Ministry appealed for the cooperation of all residents, stressing that the initiative is aimed at fostering a cleaner and healthier environment in Kano.
