Daily News 24 reports that this was disclosed in a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa on Wednesday. The incident occurred on April 22, 2025, around 1:00 p.m. after the command received a distress call about a violent robbery in progress.

Officers who responded to the call were reportedly attacked by the gang, which was said to be armed with dangerous weapons. A fierce exchange ensued during which two officers—Corporal Abdullahi Ibrahim and Sergeant Yahaya Saidu—sustained injuries. The leader of the gang, Halifa Baba-Beru, also sustained serious injuries.

All injured persons were taken to Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital. The police officers were treated and discharged, while Baba-Beru died during treatment.

The command has since launched an investigation and intensified efforts to apprehend the fleeing members of the gang.

Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, commended the bravery of the officers involved and reassured the public of the police’s commitment to protecting lives and property across the state.

He also appealed to residents to support ongoing efforts by reporting suspicious activities that could aid in the arrest of the remaining suspects.
