The Kano State Police Command has arrested ten suspects for kidnapping and armed robbery, recovering N4.85 million, firearms, and ammunition.

Daily News 24 reports that this was contained in a statement issued on Friday by the command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori. The arrests followed intensified security measures introduced by CP Bakori after assuming office on March 17, 2025.

According to the statement, police responded to a distress call on March 18 about an armed robbery in Badawa Layout, Kano. Two suspects, Awwal Hassan Ibrahim, 29, and Suleiman Umar, 24, were apprehended while attempting to steal a vehicle and valuables. A Beretta pistol loaded with two rounds of 9mm ammunition was found in their possession.

In another operation, police arrested Shuaibu Yakubu, 25, alias Dan Bula Bula, of Kadawa Mil-Tara Quarters, Kano, who was reportedly seen with a rifle in a red Pontiac Vibe. Officers recovered an AK-47 rifle with 12 live rounds, and the suspect allegedly confessed to involvement in multiple armed robbery incidents in Kano and Abuja.

Meanwhile, two other suspects, Friday Bitrus, 38, and Daniel Samuel, 25, were arrested in Zango Quarters, Kano, by the Rapid Response Team. A locally made pistol, two live cartridges, and a sharp axe were recovered from them.

The police also cracked a kidnapping case in Gabasawa LGA, where Muhammad Bello, 21, was abducted on March 8, with kidnappers demanding a N15 million ransom. The Anti-Kidnapping Squad, led by CSP Bala Shuaibu, arrested five suspects: Tukur Lawal, 20, Ado Usman, 30, Sunusi Surajo, 27, Ummulkhairi Ibrahim, 19, and Habiba Shuaibu, 18. The victim was rescued on March 17, and officers recovered a Dane gun and N4.85 million from the suspects.

All the suspects remain in custody as investigations continue. CP Bakori commended the officers involved in the operations and assured residents of Kano State that the police would not relent in ensuring security.
