The Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, made this known during a stakeholders’ meeting with the Association of Online Media Organizations in the state.

Speaking at the meeting, Waiya highlighted the vital role online media plays in delivering real-time news updates to a global audience. He assured practitioners of the government’s willingness to work with them in communicating policies and programs effectively.

“As key stakeholders in the information ecosystem, your role is invaluable. The government will ensure that you are actively involved in its activities, including capacity-building initiatives and training programs to enhance professionalism in the field,” Waiya stated.

While emphasizing the importance of ethical journalism, he urged online media practitioners to uphold professionalism, respect individual rights, and foster responsible reporting. He also called for unity among members of the Association to strengthen their impact on public information dissemination.

In their response, members of the Association commended the Commissioner for recognizing their contributions to public enlightenment. They, however, appealed for government support, particularly in securing retainership arrangements to enhance financial sustainability and ensuring regular training for both new and existing members.
