The Kano State Government has announced plans to launch a second phase of the Kano State Agro-Pastoral Development Project (KSADP), following the success of its first phase over the past five years.

The Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr. Danjuma Mahmood, revealed this during a visit by officials from the Abuja regional hub of the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) and the Federal Ministry of Finance. The initial phase of the project was jointly funded by the state government, IsDB, and the Lives and Livelihood Funds (LLF), with the objective of enhancing agricultural productivity and strengthening rural livelihoods.
According to the commissioner, the proposed second phase will address agricultural components that were not included in the first phase. He reiterated the state government’s commitment to expanding the project’s scope, given its notable achievements particularly in infrastructure development and poverty reduction.
The commissioner noted that the project has made significant contributions to improving the economic wellbeing of rural households through practical interventions such as livestock distribution and support for small-scale farmers. The administration is also said to be prioritizing timely actions on matters related to the KSADP to ensure continued progress and delivery of tangible benefits to farming communities.
During the visit, the IsDB mission, led by Daniyar Abylkhan, held discussions with the KSADP Project Management Team on matters concerning the use of project savings, the exit strategy, and outstanding counterpart funding obligations. The team also visited several project sites to assess the implementation and impact of the interventions.
Feedback from the field visits indicated that the project is well-received by local communities, with other Nigerian states reportedly expressing interest in replicating the KSADP model.
