Graduates of Northwest University, Kano, have raised concerns over the prolonged delay in the issuance of their certificates, saying the situation has continued to affect their academic and professional advancement years after graduation.

Daily News 24 reports that a former student of the university, who pleaded anonymity, disclosed in an interview on Monday that she graduated in 2020 but has still not received her certificate. According to her, she was only issued a statement of result, a development she said has prevented her from furthering her education. She described the delay as discouraging and said repeated attempts to obtain her certificate had yielded no clear timeline for resolution.

Another affected student added that he completed all requirements to graduate but has yet to receive his certificate, having only been given his statement of result. He further disclosed that some students have not even received their statements of result

Responding to the complaints, the Public Relations Officer of Northwest University, Abubakar Ibrahim, disclosed in an interview that the delay in issuing some certificates was largely due to errors discovered during the printing process. He explained that several certificates were printed with incorrect endorsement details that did not align with the officially approved information earlier provided by the university.

According to him, some of the corrected certificates have already been delivered to the university from the United Kingdom and are currently available for collection at the Office of the Registrar. He added that the printing company involved has acknowledged responsibility for the errors and the resulting delay.

The spokesperson further noted that the university’s management had expressed dissatisfaction over the prolonged delay despite repeated follow-ups and had formally requested a written explanation from the printing company. He assured that the institution is actively engaging the company to ensure that the remaining certificates are corrected, printed, and delivered without further delay.

Abubakar said certificates for undergraduate graduates of the 2023/2024 academic session and postgraduate graduates of the 2022/2023 session are now ready for collection, adding that collection will commence on Monday, December 22, 2025, between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., from Mondays to Fridays.

He advised affected graduands to seek accurate information only from appropriate university officials, while apologising to those whose certificates are still pending. According to him, management understands the difficulties the delay has caused and is taking all necessary steps to resolve the issue as quickly as possible.

Despite these assurances, some graduates, particularly those who completed their studies several years ago, say they are hopeful the ongoing engagements by the university will bring a permanent solution to the lingering problem and allow them to pursue further education and career opportunities.
