Kano judicial service commission sanctions staff over misconduct

The Kano State Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has disciplined several judicial officers for misconduct, following its 82nd meeting.

In a statement by judiciary spokesperson Baba Jibo-Ibrahim, the JSC said the actions followed thorough investigations into complaints against the staff.

Court registrar Salisu Sule was demoted by one grade level for insulting, intimidating, and abusing his office. Four complaints against him were upheld.

Principal Registrar Ahmad Aliyu Danmaraya was compulsorily retired for forging an affidavit and using a fake High Court stamp and seal.

Alkali Mustapha Kiru was recalled for one year after delivering a ruling that violated fair hearing and jailing a petitioner off-record.

Chief Magistrates Mustapha Sa’ad-Datti and Rabi Abdulkadir were reinstated but cautioned to uphold integrity and professionalism.

Warning letters were issued to Alkali Nasiru Ahmad for negligence and to Senior Magistrate Sakina Aminu for assigning a police prosecutor against directives.

The JSC reaffirmed its commitment to accountability and professionalism in the judiciary.

In April, the Kano State Judicial Service Commission also disciplined two Upper Sharia Court judges and several registrars for misconduct. Judge Mansur Ibrahim was warned for using derogatory language, while Judge Nasiru Ahmad was cautioned over a biased detention order. Registrar Ibrahim Adamu was suspended for assaulting a superior, and Maigida Lawan was demoted for bribery.
