The Kano/Jigawa command of the Nigerian Customs Service (NCS) says it has over the last 3 months seized contraband items worth 498.6 million Naira, and generated about 10.167-billion-naira revenue from January-March 2022.

Mr Muhammad Abubakar-Umar, the area controller of the NCS, made this disclosure while speaking to Journalists at a press briefing.

He noted that the command seized a truckload of 3,712 pieces of donkey skin worth 416 million Naira, adding that four suspects have been arrested in connection to the crime and have been released on administrative bail, pending conclusion of investigation.

” The seizures were made at different locations within the command’s area of coverage. Other items seized by the command’s jurisdiction were foreign rice, spaghetti, foreign soap, second-hand clothing, donkey skin, foreign matches, macaroni, donkey pennis, milky nylon diary powder, rubber shoes, means of conveyance truck, and container.

”Furthermore, notwithstanding the challenges, the command is doing well and was able to collect the revenue into the coffers of the Federal Government. In addition, our activities at the free trade zone has improved. The command will continue to put in place necessary measures to improve on the collection so far with the support from other units of the service such as the CIU, CPU, FOU, Border Drill and strike force.

Mr Umar assured that the command would continue to put more efforts at enhancing revenue generation, suppressing smuggling, facilitating trade in the state national security at large.
