The Kano State High Court has directed the Kano State Independent Electoral Commission (KANSIEC) to proceed with the local government elections set for Saturday.

Justice Sanusi Ma’aji issued the order on Friday in a case filed by KANSIEC against the All Progressives Congress (APC) and 13 others.

Justice Ma’aji upheld KANSIEC’s constitutional authority to organize, supervise, and conduct local government elections across the state’s 44 local government areas, emphasizing that any move to obstruct the process would be legally invalid. “KANSIEC is empowered by the provisions of the Constitution to conduct, supervise, and hold local government elections,” he stated, adding that efforts to halt the election process would amount to a nullity.

Furthermore, Justice Ma’aji instructed security agencies to urgently ensure the safety of lives and property during the elections scheduled for Saturday.

This ruling follows a Federal High Court decision by Justice Simon Amobeda earlier in the week, which halted the election on grounds that KANSIEC was allegedly constituted unlawfully.
