Daily News 24 reports that the call was made in a statement issued by the Public Relations Officer of the Ministry of Health, Nabilusi Abubakar K/Na’isa, on Tuesday. The state Commissioner for Health, Dr. Abubakar Labaran Yusuf, emphasized that only animals certified as healthy should be purchased and slaughtered during the festive season, in a bid to protect public health and curb the risk of zoonotic infections.

The commissioner advised residents to pay close attention to how meat is handled and prepared. He noted that thorough cooking is essential to eliminate harmful microorganisms that may be present in the animal. Mothers and food handlers were particularly urged to take responsibility by ensuring high standards of hygiene in food preparation.

Dr. Yusuf also stressed the importance of washing meat with clean water before cooking or storage as a basic but effective step in preventing contamination and ensuring food safety.

He reassured the public of the state government’s readiness to respond to any health emergencies that may arise during the Sallah celebration. According to him, health facilities across the state have been stocked with essential drugs and emergency medical supplies to ensure quick response when needed.

The commissioner reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to promoting preventive healthcare and encouraged residents to adhere to health advisories during the festive period.

He concluded by extending warm Eid-el-Kabir greetings to the people of Kano State, wishing them a peaceful and healthy celebration.
