The Kano State government is set to launch a significant training program aimed at enhancing the skills of 100 members of the Kannywood film industry.
This initiative was announced by the Executive Secretary of the Kano State Censorship Board, Alh. Abba El-Mustapha, and will focus on modern film-making techniques and business practices.
El-Mustapha highlighted that this program reflects the administration of Governor Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf’s commitment to modernizing the Kannywood industry.

As part of the effort, 100 application forms have been distributed to industry members for a two-month training session facilitated by the Kano State Films Institute.
“The goal of this training is to acquaint our filmmakers with modern practices and ethical standards, empowering them to become self-reliant and successful in their careers,” said El-Mustapha.
He emphasized that the program is designed to provide participants with essential knowledge and tools to thrive in the evolving film industry.
The training aims to enhance participants’ skills, helping them meet global standards and contribute to the growth of the local film industry. El-Mustapha urged all selected participants to “seize this valuable opportunity provided to them by the Kano State government,” emphasizing the importance of using the training to advance their careers and support the development of Kannywood.
Malam Alhassan Kwalle, Chairman of the Kano State Guild of Artists, expressed gratitude towards Governor Yusuf for his dedication to the industry.
“We are grateful to Governor Yusuf for considering us worthy of this opportunity to enhance our skills. And with the training provided, we are confident that our members will be able to compete with their counterparts worldwide. We pledge our full support and cooperation to ensure the success of this program,” Kwalle said.
