Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf made the announcement on Saturday while receiving a N110 million donation from the First Lady, Mrs. Remi Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for the families of the deceased athletes.
The donation, presented by Hajiya Laila Barau Jibril, wife of the Deputy Senate President, will see each affected family receive N5 million in support.

Mrs. Tinubu, through her representative, expressed deep sorrow over the loss, describing the late athletes as young, promising talents whose impact on the state will not be forgotten.
Governor Yusuf thanked the First Lady for her humanitarian gesture and noted that the support would help ease the families’ burden. He also recalled Mrs. Tinubu’s earlier interventions in the state, including financial assistance to vulnerable women.
He added that the state government has resolved to name a sports training institute after the deceased, to be called the Kano State 22 Athletes Institute, a facility dedicated to nurturing young sports talents in the state.
He further pledged that the government will fully sponsor the education of their children up to university level.
