The Kano State Executive Council has approved over N20.3 billion for major infrastructure and public service projects across the state, including the decision to immortalize former governor Muhammadu Abubakar Rimi.

The approvals were made during the council’s second special meeting held on Thursday, May 22, 2025, presided over by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.

According to a statement by the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, the funds will be used to complete several 5-kilometre dual carriage roads whose contracts were revoked and re-awarded.

The projects include roads in Bebeji (N3.2bn), Tudun Wada (N4.6bn), Garun Mallam (N4bn), Madobi (N4.1bn), and Tsanyawa (N3.4bn) Local Government Areas.

In honour of late Governor Rimi, who was the first to institutionalize Workers’ Day celebrations in the state, the council approved the construction of an auditorium at the NLC Headquarters along Katsina Road at a cost of N284.5 million. The facility will be named after him.

Other projects approved include the reconstruction of a burnt mosque and Islamiyya school with associated facilities in Tiga Gadan, Gezawa LGA (N151.8m), and general renovation of all offices within the Cabinet Office (N517.3m).

On policy matters, the council expressed concern over the damage caused by recent rainstorms in Sumaila and Doguwa LGAs, and approved the formation of a committee to assess the destruction and recommend support measures.

Additionally, the council discussed the poor condition of the Zawaciki abattoir, expressing dismay over alleged vandalism during the last administration. A committee was set up to investigate and propose solutions, including the possibility of constructing a modern facility to boost employment and economic activity.

Governor Yusuf’s administration reaffirmed its commitment to accountability, transparency, and improving the lives of Kano residents through impactful governance.
