The Kano State Government says it will conduct a house-to-house vaccination against Circulating Vaccine Drive Polio Virus type 2 (cVDPV2), across the 44 local government areas in the state.

The state Commissioner for Health, Dr Aminu Tsanyawa, disclosed this at a news conference in Kano on Friday.

Tsanyawa confirmed that there was an outbreak of the cVDPV2 in about 13 states of the Federation including Kano and this needed outbreak response.

“Kano has so far recorded 106 cases of the cVDPV2 across 25 local governments in the previous year, 2021.

“Outbreak Response (OBR) activities were conducted in 2021 in the affected local governments in line with the national directives and guidelines from National Primary Healthcare Development Agency,” he said.

Tsanyawa explained that a major outbreak response campaign, tagged OBRI, was being organised across the Federation to vaccinate all eligible children in the country.

According to the commissioner, the house-to-house exercise will be integrated into the Maternal Newborn and Child Health Week from Jan. 9 to Jan. 13.

He appealed to parents to ensure full immunization of all eligible children in order to curtail the Circulating Vaccine Drive Polio virus in the state.
