The Kano State Government has announced plans to acquire majority shares in the Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) as part of efforts to strengthen power supply and drive industrial growth in the state.

In a statement signed by the Governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the government said the move will allow Kano to play a more active role in electricity generation, transmission, and distribution aimed at improving efficiency, accountability, and service delivery in the power sector.

According to the statement, the decision is expected to stimulate economic activities, create job opportunities, and attract both local and foreign investors to the state.

The State Executive Council also approved the adoption of a new Kano State Electricity Policy under the Ministry of Power and Renewable Energy. The policy sets a clear roadmap for sustainable energy development, emphasizing the integration of renewable sources and improved energy efficiency across industries and communities.

The statement added that Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s administration remains determined to make Kano an energy-secure and business-friendly state that encourages innovation, industrialization, and inclusive economic growth.
