The Kano State Agro-Pastoral Development Project (KSADP) has invested about N800 million in training programmes for its stakeholders, including beneficiaries and project staff.

This was contained in a statement by the project’s Communication Specialist, Ameen Yassar, issued on Saturday.

According to Yassar, the Project Coordinator, Ibrahim Muhammad, announced the development during the opening of a training workshop on animal insemination at the Kadawa Artificial Insemination Centre on Friday.

He said the training aims to build the capacity of participants to sustain KSADP’s objectives beyond its completion. “The training is on Animal Insemination for animal husbandry technicians and other livestock staff of the Kano State Ministry of Agriculture,” he stated.

Muhammad explained that the exercise is part of efforts to reintroduce artificial insemination for sustainable livestock development in Kano, a state that remains a major livestock hub contributing over N1.73 trillion to its GDP in 2023.

He added that the project, funded by the Islamic Development Bank and the Lives and Livelihoods Fund had renovated the Kadawa centre, procured five exotic bulls, and provided modern equipment. “We have also earmarked N125 million for further upgrades, including inputs, fence reconstruction, and a two-hectare fodder farm,” he added.

Muhammad urged trainees to make the most of the workshop to improve breed quality and milk production.

A participant, Sulaiman Audu, appreciated the sponsors for the opportunity, noting that the training would enhance their technical skills.

The programme, held in collaboration with the Federal College of Agricultural Produce Technology, Kano, covers theoretical and practical sessions on semen collection, freezing, storage, animal health, and record-keeping.

It would be recalled that KSADP had in August 2025 signed a $12.3 million MoU with Sasakawa Africa Association to boost mechanisation and food security in the state.
