The Kano State Government has inaugurated a Local Organizing Committee to coordinate the upcoming National Summit on Harnessing the Creative Industry to Boost Nigeria’s GDP.
Speaking at the inauguration, the state Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, said the summit would provide a platform for stakeholders to explore fresh strategies for repositioning Nigeria’s creative sector as a major contributor to the national economy.

He said the summit would also highlight Kano’s vast cultural and creative resources, promote local products, and engage global media to attract national and international attention to the state’s creative economy.
This summit is a major milestone in the shared goal of unlocking the economic potential of the creative sector. It will showcase heritage, uplift local talent, and create opportunities for inclusive growth.
The Commissioner also praised the Kannywood Foundation for proposing the idea, saying it fits into the state’s broader development vision. He thanked Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for backing the initiative, describing him as a leader committed to empowering the youth and strengthening the creative economy.
According to Waiya, the creative sector can become a key driver of job creation, wealth generation, and GDP growth if properly harnessed.
The committee is chaired by Waiya and includes members from various ministries and creative associations such as the Ministries of Culture, Tourism, Religious Affairs, the Kannywood Foundation, the Kano State History and Culture Bureau, Directors Guild of Nigeria, Nigerian Authors Association, Kano Emirate Council, Kano Internal Revenue Service, and other relevant stakeholders.
