The State Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Honourable Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, gave the assurance on Sunday, April 27, 2025, during the inauguration of the new executive members of the Kano Online Media Chapel, held at the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Kano State Council Secretariat.

He noted that, for the first time in history, such a structure was being introduced to organize online media practitioners under a unified platform, adding, “These efforts are not intended to create competition but to take advantage of the digital space as a key driver of information dissemination.”

Waiya stressed that Kano’s development efforts needed better media coverage and assured that the government would support online journalists to add value to the state’s image.

In his welcome address, Chairman of the Inauguration Committee, Alhaji Ahmad Aminu, emphasized the importance of online media in reaching the youth and promoting societal ideals. “One of the major challenges in Kano today is the spread of vile, disrespectful, and misleading information,” he said. He urged practitioners to uphold ethical journalism by avoiding speculation and sensationalism, ensuring fact-checking, and promoting unity and peace.

“We must become reliable allies of societal growth,” Ahmad added, reminding them to align their work with the vision of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, who is committed to maintaining peace and order.

Speaking at the event, Chairman of the Kano Online Media Chapel, Comrade Abubakar Abdulkadir Dangambo, expressed gratitude to God, the organizing committee, and the NUJ leadership. “This inauguration is a bold recognition of the vital role digital platforms play in giving voice to the voiceless,” Dangambo said.

He pledged that the chapel under his leadership would strive to build public trust through the dissemination of factual news and thanked Honourable Waiya for his unwavering support.

Other newly inaugurated executives of the chapel included Vice Chairman Khadija Aliyu, Secretary Isiyaku Ahmed, Treasurer Abbas Yusha’u, Financial Secretary Zainab A. Mai’agogo, Assistant Secretary Zahra’u Nasir, and Auditor Musa Ahmad D/iya (Best Seller), all of whom were presented with certificates during the ceremony.
