The Kano State Government has announced a new partnership with the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN) to improve access to affordable housing and address the growing shortage of homes across the state.

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf made this known on Wednesday while receiving the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the bank, Alhaji Shehu Usman Osidi, and his delegation at the Government House in Kano.

In a statement by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Mustapha Muhammad, Governor Yusuf emphasized the urgent need to address the rising housing demand in the state, which he noted is the second most populous in the country.

“Kano State Government has always been at the forefront of development, and housing is a critical aspect of this growth. We recognize the importance of accessible and affordable housing in enhancing the quality of life of our citizens,” the governor said.

He added that his administration is committed to working with relevant institutions such as the Federal Mortgage Bank and other stakeholders to meet the shelter needs of the people.

Earlier, the FMBN boss said the visit was aimed at fostering cooperation with the state government in the area of affordable housing delivery.

Alhaji Osidi explained that the bank’s core mandate is to support Nigerians especially low and middle-income earners in accessing decent housing. He also lauded the state’s recent decision to reinstate its civil servants into the National Housing Fund (NHF) scheme.

“This is a clear demonstration of responsive governance and commitment to improving the welfare of workers,” Osidi said.

He disclosed that the bank is currently financing ten housing projects in different parts of Kano State, valued at ₦6.8 billion, as part of efforts to reduce the housing deficit.

The FMBN chief assured of the bank’s willingness to deepen its partnership with Kano State to deliver more housing solutions to the people.
