The agreement was reached during a high-level meeting in Bissau, where a delegation representing Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, led by the National Chairman of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Dr. Ajuji Ahmed, paid a courtesy visit to Guinea Bissau’s President, Umaro Sissoco Embaló.
Both sides pledged to collaborate on programmes that promote job creation, youth empowerment, and skill acquisition. The partnership will also include initiatives in GSM repairs, fish farming, and the cashew and mango value chains, key sectors expected to drive productivity and employment opportunities.
As part of the educational exchange, the selected Guinea Bissau students will study English and Hausa languages at a state-owned tertiary institution in Kano, fostering cross-cultural and linguistic ties between the two West African nations.
President Embaló, in his remarks, commended Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s visionary approach to development and expressed his readiness to visit Kano soon. He also revealed that his Minister of Defence had been directed to lead a government delegation to the state to explore further areas of cooperation.
The Kano delegation included Hajiya Amina Abdullahi, Commissioner for Women Affairs, Children and Persons with Disabilities; Hajiya Sadiya Abdu Bichi, Special Adviser on Women, Children and Persons with Disabilities; Arc. Danjuma Zarewa, former Director-General of Urban Beautification; and Hon. Muhammad Sani Gumel.
