The Kano State Government has raised fresh concerns over the growing activities of commercial motorcycle operators, popularly known as Achaba, across different parts of the state despite an existing ban on their operations.

Authorities said intelligence reports confirmed that Achaba riders were resurfacing in several areas within Kano metropolis, while border communities have also begun witnessing increased activity. The resurgence, according to the government, includes the infiltration of unidentified individuals disguising as commercial motorcycle operators in some neighbourhoods.
In a statement signed by the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, the government said it is taking steps to address the security implications associated with the return of Achaba operations. It noted that safeguarding the lives and property of residents remains a top priority for Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s administration.
The statement added that security agencies in the state are already responding to the situation, with the government providing the needed support and expressing readiness to offer additional assistance to ensure effective coordination.
According to the government, public recommendations such as enhanced monitoring and tighter surveillance at all entry and exit points are being reviewed as part of a wider security assessment aimed at strengthening the state’s response.
The Kano State Government also expressed appreciation to residents for their vigilance and cooperation, urging the public to continue reporting suspicious activities to security agencies to help contain emerging threats.
It reaffirmed Governor Yusuf’s commitment to tackling security challenges across the 44 Local Government Areas by working closely with local councils, traditional rulers, community leaders, and relevant stakeholders to restore peace and stability in the state.
