Commissioner for Education, Dr. Ali Makoda, directed a full-scale investigation to uncover the truth behind the incident and ensure justice for the affected families. The deceased students, identified as Hamza Idris Tofawa (19) and Umar Yusuf Dungurawa (18), were reportedly assaulted by senior students with a metal object known locally as “Gwale-Gwale.”

According to the Ministry of Education’s Director of Public Enlightenment, Balarabe Kiru, the government is determined to determine the exact cause of death and circumstances surrounding the attack.

The violent incident occurred on Monday, July 14, around 11:30 p.m. Reports indicate that four students were lured into a hostel by senior students and brutally attacked. While Hamza and Umar lost their lives, two others – Ibrahim Ibrahim and Aliyu M. Nasir sustained injuries and received medical attention.

The school principal promptly reported the matter to the Kano State Police Command. Police have since arrested 12 students from various classes in connection with the attack. The suspects have been identified and investigations are ongoing, with authorities confirming that those found guilty will face prosecution.

During an on-the-spot visit to the school, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Bashir Muhammad, who represented the commissioner, assured that the investigation would be conducted with fairness and transparency. He also urged students not to take the law into their own hands.
