The Kano State Government has launched the Kano State Neighbourhood Watch Corps as part of efforts to strengthen security at the grassroots level across the state.

The corps, comprising 2,000 personnel, was inaugurated during a ceremony held at the Sani Abacha Stadium in Kano, with Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf leading the event alongside top security officials from various national security agencies in the state.
According to information made available, the Kano State Neighbourhood Watch Corps was established to complement the work of conventional security agencies through enhanced surveillance, protection of lives and property, and improved community-level security.
The corps is made up of youths who have received training in security operations, intelligence gathering, and effective collaboration with the police and other security agencies to help prevent crimes before they occur.
The state government disclosed that members of the Neighbourhood Watch Corps would be deployed across different local government areas, with a focus on securing markets, schools, residential neighbourhoods, and other critical public locations.
It stressed that the launch of the Kano State Neighbourhood Watch Corps is part of broader measures being implemented to ensure lasting peace and enhance public safety across the state.
The government also called on residents to give full cooperation and support to the corps, noting that community participation is essential to its success in protecting lives and maintaining peace in Kano.
