Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has launched an investigation into reports that some government employees have had their salaries reduced or withheld.

The governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, confirmed the development in a statement on Thursday.

Governor Yusuf expressed deep concern over reports that some civil servants have gone months without receiving their salaries. He described the situation as a serious violation of workers’ rights and a betrayal of public trust.

He assured that those responsible for the irregularities would be identified and held accountable.

“This government will not tolerate the oppression of workers. Anyone found guilty of this act will face the full wrath of the law without exception,” he stated.

To address the issue, the governor set up a high-powered committee to investigate the root cause of the problem, whether it stems from technical issues or deliberate actions.

The committee has been tasked with reviewing salary payments from October 2024 to February 2025. It will identify affected employees, determine the extent of financial losses, and recommend corrective measures, including sanctions for those involved.

The seven-member committee is chaired by the Commissioner for Rural Affairs and Community Development, Hon. Abdulkadir Abdussalam. Other members include experts in finance and payroll management.

The committee has seven days to complete its investigation and submit a detailed report, which will include names of those responsible, the scale of the issue, and proposed solutions.
