The Kano State Government confiscated and burnt 402 tonnes of substandard and other expired goods in the state.

Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje who witnessed the destruction made at the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency Headquarters in Kano said the operation is in a bid to save lives of good people of Kano considering the harmful effect of the expired goods.

Speaking at the event, Acting Managing Director, Kano State Consumer Protection Council Dr. Baffa Babba Dan Agundi, said the destruction of substandard goods become imperative looking at the way they are being flooded into markets.

“Not only Kano State Consumer Protection Council, Security agents too played their role toward the successful operation of the confiscated goods”, Baffa Dan Agundi said.

On his part, Commissioner of Health Dr. Aminu Ibrahim Tsanyawa said that the success comes after witnessing an outbreak of foodborne disease which led to deaths of ten people, and many others hospitalised as a result of taking substandard goods.

“As per we’re concern we’ll continue to join hands to curtail the problems facing our dear State.

“50 of those people that were affected by the substandard foods drink in the State are in our health facilities well taking care of”, Dr. Tsanyawa.

The Commander National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA Kano, Malam Isah Likita Muhammad said the joint effort will benefit not only Kano State, but other neighboring towns in the fight against substandard and expired goods.
