Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has granted an additional two-month grace period to homeowners in Kwankwasiyya, Amana, and Bandirawo estates, following the expiration of the initial three-month deadline for them to occupy their properties.

The extension, according to the governor, is aimed at giving residents more time to comply before the state government takes enforcement measures to repossess unoccupied houses.

Governor Yusuf explained that the estates were developed to promote the state’s growth and urged homeowners to either return to their houses or consider renting them out.

“Although my earlier directive was clear, I listened to stakeholders and decided to allow more time. My administration remains committed to seeing these estates thrive,” he said.

The Chairman of the Implementation Committee, Ibrahim Adam, described the governor’s decision as a demonstration of compassionate and responsive leadership. He urged homeowners to take advantage of the new window, stressing that once the five-month total grace period lapses, the law will be applied without delay.

Governor Yusuf also revealed that the State Ministry of Housing has taken over the current Housing Corporation headquarters, with the agency relocated to Kwankwasiyya to bring government services closer to the people.
