Yusuf Maitama Sule Federal University of Education in Kano is set to commence degree programmes in the 2025/2026 academic session, marking the end of its National Certificate in Education (NCE) offerings.

This was contained in a statement issued by the University’s Academic Secretary, Dr. Auwalu Mudi Yakasai, on behalf of the Registrar. According to the statement, the development follows a successful resource verification conducted by the National Universities Commission (NUC), during which the institution scored 100 percent for its preparedness in curriculum, staffing, and infrastructure.
As a result, the NUC has approved the university to offer 28 independent degree programmes. These include:
- B.Ed. Adult Continuing Education
- B.Ed. Early and Childhood Education
- B.Ed. Primary Education
- B.Ed. Social Studies and Civil Education
- B.A. (Ed.) Islamic Studies
- B.A. (Ed.) Christian Religious Studies
- B.A. (Ed.) History
- B.A. (Ed.) English
- B.A. (Ed.) Hausa
- B.A. (Ed.) Yoruba
- B.A. (Ed.) Igbo
- B.A. (Ed.) Fulfulde
- B.A. (Ed.) Arabic
- B.A. (Ed.) French
- B.A. (Ed.) Creative Arts Education
- B.Sc. (Ed.) Biology
- B.Sc. (Ed.) Chemistry
- B.Sc. (Ed.) Physics
- B.Sc. (Ed.) Mathematics
- B.Sc. (Ed.) Computer Science
- B.Sc. (Ed.) Integrated Science

Following the upgrade, candidates who had applied for NCE programmes are advised to log into the JAMB portal, complete the Green Card process, and switch to a degree programme of their choice. Admission into 100 level requires a UTME score of at least 150 and five O-Level credits including English and Mathematics. Holders of NCE certificates may apply for direct entry into 200 level.
To ensure a smooth transition, the university has constituted a staff placement committee which has already commenced its work.
In addition, the statement noted that results for all NCE merger students sponsored by the Kano State Government are ready for collection beginning Wednesday, July 30, 2025.
The university encouraged prospective students to take advantage of the new programmes, describing the institution as one of the most peaceful and academically sound in Kano and beyond.
