The visit followed a tragic incident in which a fuel tanker exploded on Tuesday night, killing at least 153 people who had rushed to the scene of the accident.

A statement released on Friday by Sanusi Dawakin Tofa, the spokesperson for the Kano governor, confirmed the donation, noting that it would provide relief to the families of the deceased and assist with medical treatment for those injured in the explosion.

Yusuf emphasized the close historical and cultural ties between Kano and Jigawa, expressing Kano’s solidarity with Jigawa in this moment of grief. He also conveyed his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and those recovering from their injuries, praying for the Almighty to prevent such tragedies in the future.

In response, Governor Namadi expressed his gratitude to the Kano government for the generous support. He assured that the donated funds would be used judiciously to aid the victims and their families.

Namadi further revealed that, as of Thursday evening, the death toll had risen to 167, with 67 people still receiving treatment at various medical facilities within and outside the state.
