Gwarzo made the call during a training themed “United Against Drug Abuse: A Collective-Based Strategy,” organized by the Kano Reformatory Centre for chairmen of the 44 local government areas. He was represented at the event by the Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Mustapha Musa Kwankwaso.
He noted that local government leaders are in the best position to drive grassroots initiatives against drug abuse because of their close connection to the people.
Gwarzo described drug abuse as a complex problem that affects not only health but also social, economic, and security structures in society. He urged the chairmen to use their positions to mobilize residents and coordinate community-based actions to curb the rising menace.
The training was designed to equip the council chairmen with the knowledge, skills, and practical tools needed to combat the problem effectively.
According to the Deputy Governor, the Kano State Government remains committed to supporting collaborative efforts aimed at eradicating drug abuse. He stressed that only a coordinated, multi-sectoral approach involving local authorities and stakeholders can yield sustainable results in addressing the challenge.
