Former head of the students’ affairs unit of the centre, Dr. Musa Isa Ibrahim (IQAM), raised alarm over what he described as weak leadership and poor management threatening the survival of the facility, Hikima Radio reports.
He explained that several trainees who completed their programmes at the centre have been unable to obtain their Learner’s Unique Number (LUN). Without the LUN, they cannot sit for the National Skills Qualification (NSQ) examination or secure the certificates needed to validate their training and gain employment.
This development, he noted, has left many of the graduates stranded, with their skills unrecognized and their chances of getting jobs or starting businesses significantly limited.
He further revealed that some instructors at the centre have spent between four and five years teaching without formal confirmation of their employment status. He added that many of them have also gone without pay for the last three months, worsening their plight.
The centre, established by the Aliko Dangote Foundation, was designed to equip young people with modern vocational skills as part of wider efforts to combat unemployment in the state. However, observers say unless urgent steps are taken to address the challenges, its vision may be derailed.
