Shehu Wada Sagagi, Chief of Staff to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, has initiated legal proceedings against the Northern Youth Merger Group, a faction of the All Progressives Congress (APC), accusing him of diverting federal government rice palliatives to an Islamic Center.

The APC group’s allegations have led Sagagi to file a lawsuit in the Kano State High Court, also naming the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), the Commissioner of Police for Kano State, and Hon. Musa Mujahid Zaitawa as defendants.

Sagagi, a leading figure in the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), has dismissed the accusations as “misleading and politically motivated” attempts by the APC to tarnish his and the NNPP administration’s reputations.

He asserts that his office has never been involved in the distribution of palliatives and that no palliatives have been allocated to him for distribution at any government level.

In response to the claims, Sagagi sought and obtained an ex parte order from Justice Aisha Ya’u of the Kano State High Court on August 15, 2024.

The order restrains the EFCC and the Commissioner of Police from arresting, intimidating, or harassing Sagagi pending the outcome of the motion on notice. The court’s injunction specifically bars the respondents and their agents from any form of coercion until the matter is fully heard.

The court has scheduled the case for further review on September 3, 2024.
