The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in Kano State has rejected the outcome of the Ghari/Tsanyawa State Assembly re-run election conducted on August 16, 2025, accusing the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of bias and manipulation.

Speaking to journalists in Kano on Sunday, the state chairman of the NNPP, Comrade Hashimu Dungurawa, alleged that INEC compromised the exercise by declaring the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate as winner in disregard of the people’s will.

Dungurawa faulted the electoral body for announcing the results at its state headquarters rather than at the constituency collation center, a move he described as “an avenue for manipulation.” He also reminded INEC of the Court of Appeal’s directive that the re-run should cover 10 polling units, insisting that the process fell short of that mandate.

Despite the announcement of APC’s Garba Ya’u Gwarmai as the winner with 31,472 votes against NNPP’s Yusuf Ali Maigado who polled 27,931, Dungurawa said the party would resist what it views as injustice, favoritism, and electoral malpractice.

In contrast, the NNPP applauded the conduct of the Shanono/Bagwai by-election, where its candidate emerged victorious. The party described the exercise as transparent and praised security agencies for ensuring orderliness during the poll.

The NNPP maintained that while it welcomes credible elections such as that of Shanono/Bagwai, it will continue to challenge outcomes it believes were tainted by irregularities.
