In a statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker, Mr. Kamaluddeen Shawai, the assembly described the reports making the rounds as false and misleading. He clarified that although a petition had been submitted by concerned citizens, the mere receipt of such a document does not amount to initiating a probe.

Mr. Shawai stressed that the Majority Leader of the House, Lawan Hussain-Dala, who received the petition, had not endorsed or called for any investigation against Yusha’u. He emphasized that the assembly is committed to operating strictly within constitutional provisions and that any investigation, if ever warranted, would follow due process, including giving all parties a fair hearing.

The assembly also reaffirmed its commitment to transparency and the rule of law, noting that it reserves the right to accept and consider petitions from the public, but without compromising legal procedures.

As part of its response, the assembly demanded that individuals and media organizations responsible for circulating the erroneous report issue a retraction and public apology within seven days. It warned that failure to comply could lead to legal action.
