Shafi’u Abubakar, 38, set the mosque on fire on May 15, 2024, while people were praying in Gadan Larabar Abasawa Village. He had bought N7,000 worth of fuel from a filling station on Hadeja Road, transferred it into a jerrycan before carrying out the act. He later surrendered himself to the police.

According to a statement by the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, the approval was part of several key resolutions reached on Thursday during the second special meeting of the State Executive Council presided over by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.

The statement further disclosed that the Council approved the revocation and re-award of contracts for the completion of several five-kilometer dual carriage roads across the state. The projects include Bebeji (N3.228 billion), Tudun Wada (N4.603 billion), Garun Mallam (N4.047 billion), Madobi (N4.108 billion), and Tsanyawa (N3.425 billion).

In a tribute to the late Governor Alhaji Muhammadu Abubakar Rimi, the Council approved N284.6 million for the construction of an auditorium at the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) headquarters, to be named in his honour.

Additionally, N517.3 million was approved for the general renovation of offices within the Cabinet Office to improve working conditions and enhance government operations.

The Council also sympathized with victims of recent rainstorms and windstorms in Sumaila and Doguwa Local Government Areas, approving the formation of a committee to assess the damage and recommend appropriate action.

Deliberations were also held on the deteriorating state of the Zawaciki abattoir, with approval given for the constitution of a committee to investigate the matter. Plans are under consideration for constructing a modern abattoir to generate employment and boost economic activities in the state.
