Muhyi Magaji Rimin Gado, head of the Kano State Public Complaints and Anti‑Corruption Commission (PCACC), has recounted his recent arrest and detention, warning that corrupt elites are driving insecurity in northern Nigeria.

He disclosed this during the launch of the 19th edition of the Compendium on 100 High‑Profile Corruption Cases in Nigeria in Lagos, themed “Youth as Catalyst of Integrity: Building a Corruption‑Free Future for Nigeria,” Daily Post reports. Speaking at the event, he compared Nigeria’s fight against corruption to the decades-long campaign by the United States and Colombian authorities against deadly drug cartels, highlighting the dangers faced by law-enforcement officers and anti-corruption agents.

The PCACC chief linked northern banditry and rising violence to the misappropriation of public funds, noting that many companies in Kano’s public-private partnerships had ties to former governor Abdullahi Ganduje, and that billions from state revenue, including fraudulent land rents, were stolen.

He described corrupt politicians as a malignant force that must be removed to restore Nigeria’s standing and urged citizens to reject a “league of corrupt elites” prioritizing personal wealth over national progress.

Speaking about his arrest, he said he and his family faced threats because of his investigations into Ganduje’s administration. He recounted being taken at night from Kano to Abuja, held for 17 hours in cramped conditions, and warned that any attack on the convoy by bandits could have been fatal.

The PCACC head also criticized law-enforcement agencies for being compromised by corrupt politicians and questioned the legality of his police detention, noting that he acted with authorization from the Attorney-General to prosecute violations of Kano State law.

Concluding, the anti-corruption chief said corrupt politicians in Nigeria are as ruthless as the world’s deadliest drug lords, willing to destroy the nation to protect their wealth, and warned that national prosperity is impossible while such actors dominate politics.
