The Airforce Comprehensive School in Kano State has been shut down following a suspected outbreak of diphtheria that reportedly claimed the life of an SS3 student last week, with another currently receiving treatment in a hospital.

On Tuesday evening, students of the boarding school located within the Airforce Base in Kano were seen returning home. A reliable source, who preferred anonymity, revealed that the school would remain closed until the second term begins in January 2025.

“The students have been discharged, and the school will reopen in January,” the source confirmed.

Additionally, a signal from the Base Service Group (BSG), sighted on Tuesday, instructed all students who returned home to report to the 465 NAF Hospital in Kano on Wednesday by 9:00 a.m. for clinical evaluations.

“This is to ensure that the Base Community is protected from any form of the disease. Kindly disseminate and comply,” the directive stated.

Efforts to contact the school authorities for further clarification were unsuccessful as of the time of filing this report.
