The spokesperson for the Kano State Fire Service, Saminu Abdullahi, confirmed the incident in a statement issued on Friday. He explained that the agency received a distress call from one Usman Adamu, who reported that an elderly woman had fallen into a toilet pit in the area.

According to Abdullahi, the Emergency Response Unit, led by Director Sani Anas, received the call around 9:27 a.m. on Thursday, November 6, 2025, and promptly dispatched a rescue team to the scene.

Upon arrival, the team found the lifeless body of the woman, identified as Habiba Ado. Her relatives said she had been suffering from mental illness before the incident and had been missing for four days before her remains were discovered.

The family also appealed to the owner of the house to seal the pit to prevent similar tragedies in the future.

The fire service spokesperson stated that the woman’s body was recovered by the rescue team but was confirmed dead. Her remains were handed over to the Ward Head, Alhaji Musa Muhammad, for burial in accordance with Islamic traditions.
