Kaduna State Police Command has addressed reports surrounding the death of Abdurraheem Mustapha, a graduate of Ahmadu Bello University, amid claims that police officers were driving against traffic.

In a statement on Monday, the state police spokesperson, Mansir Hassan, said the Mobile Police personnel involved were on escort duty on Friday when the incident occurred. According to Hassan, the police vehicle had stopped at a junction when a motorcyclist, riding at high speed, collided with it from behind.
The victim’s brother, Sabiu Mustapha Abubakar, had earlier told reporters that Mustapha was struck on the head by a police officer while riding his motorcycle. Eyewitnesses said bystanders had to insist that he be taken to a hospital. The family also accused the police of attempting to cover up the incident, claiming instead that the motorcycle collided with a car, a version witnesses denied.
The spokesperson explained that the police officers immediately took Mustapha to a hospital for medical attention and promptly reported the matter to their station. An official investigation into the incident has been launched, and the officers involved have been directed to report back to the station.
Hassan also urged members of the public to disregard misleading reports circulating online and encouraged anyone with credible information about the incident to come forward.
