Chairman of the House Committee on Information, Hon. Henry Marah Zachariah, dismissed El-Rufai’s claims, stating that all members of the Assembly possess the necessary legal, educational, and moral qualifications to execute their duties effectively.
Zachariah described the former governor’s statement as defamatory and baseless, emphasizing that the Assembly has diligently carried out its constitutional responsibilities, including an ongoing probe into El-Rufai’s administration. He argued that El-Rufai’s remarks were a desperate attempt to remain politically relevant.
The lawmakers also refuted El-Rufai’s assertion that they lacked the capacity to investigate his administration. According to Zachariah, findings from the investigation are publicly accessible, and El-Rufai’s attempts to challenge the report in court have so far been unsuccessful.
Furthermore, the lawmakers clarified that the Speaker of the House does not have the authority to appoint or dismiss officials, including the former Executive Chairman of the Kaduna State Internal Revenue Service (KADIRS).
Despite the controversy, the lawmakers reaffirmed their commitment to working with Governor Uba Sani and House Speaker Yusuf Liman to uphold democratic governance and ensure that Kaduna residents benefit from their leadership.
