The disclosure was made by the Commissioner for Education, Prof. Abubakar Sani-Sambo, during a meeting with members of the Kaduna Government College Old Boys Association at his office.
In December 2021, former Governor Nasir El-Rufai introduced a four-day workweek for public servants, effective from December 1 of that year, which was later extended to public schools from January 10, 2022. The policy, influenced by lessons from COVID-19 flexible work practices, was intended to promote productivity and work-life balance.
Prof. Sani-Sambo highlighted the government’s commitment to enhancing teachers’ welfare as a key factor in boosting productivity. He noted that reviewing teachers’ salaries and ensuring their well-being remain top priorities for the administration.
The commissioner also addressed the temporary occupation of Kaduna Government College premises by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), which has disrupted academic activities.
According to Muhammad Yusuf Sa’in Lere, National President of the Kaduna Government College Old Boys Association, about 70% of the school’s facilities are currently occupied. With the recent improvements in security, both organizations are expected to relocate to their permanent sites, allowing the school to operate fully.
